Fire Weather Planning Forecast for southeast Kansas and southwest Missouri
National Weather Service Springfield MO
143 AM CDT Fri Aug 14 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Hot and humid conditions will persist through across the are today
into this weekend, with daily highs in the upper 90s to around 100
and afternoon/early evening heat index values around 105-110 degrees.

Winds will follow a pretty persistent/consistent diurnal pattern
through the period, with daytime sustained southwesterly winds of
12-18 mph and gusts up to 20-25 mph, and nighttime sustained
southerly winds of 8-12 mph. These southwesterly daytime winds
will provide sufficient mixing for minimum relative humidity
values to reach the 30-40% range across much of the area.
Extensive periods of hot temperatures, somewhat dry air, and a bit
of breezy winds may lead to quick drying of fuels and locally
elevated fire weather.

Most locations will remain dry through Sunday. Shower and
thunderstorm chances will occur across portions of the area
Sunday night into Monday and will be possible again late
next week.
