550 FXUS66 KSEW 220910 AFDSEW Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Seattle WA 210 AM PDT Fri Aug 22 2025 .SYNOPSIS...Unusually hot and continued dry conditions will persist well into next week. Major Heat Risk levels can be expected through the Cascade foothills and valleys and widespread Moderate Heat Risk levels over much of the remaining lowland areas. In addition, elevated fire weather countdowns are expected, with pockets of extreme conditions especially in the Cascades and eastern Olympic Mountains. && .SHORT TERM /TODAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...Strong high pressure over the West will bring warm and dry conditions to western WA through early next week. Temperatures will track well above normal and in the 80s and 90s across most lowland areas (areas away from the water). Lows will also be warm and mainly in the 60s for most spots. This leads to widespread Moderate Heat Risk for the area. The Cascade foothills will be even warmer with highs near 100 degrees - with pockets of Major Heat Risk. In addition, fire danger will reach critical thresholds for hot, dry and unstable conditions, primarily for the Cascades and east Olympics - Fire Weather Watches remain in effect. 33 .LONG TERM /MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...Weak onshore pushes will bring some relief from the heat to the coast, but the interior will remain warm and in the 80s and 90s through Wednesday. A stronger push may bring cooler marine air inland Wednesday night and Thursday but there`s still some uncertainty in the ensemble spreads. 33 && .AVIATION...A strong upper ridge remains in place over the region today with light west to southwest flow aloft. The low level flow is northerly or light offshore. VFR conditions will prevail areawide today. KSEA...VFR. Surface winds northeasterly 7 to 10 knots becoming northerly 10 to 14 knots afternoon hours. 27 && .MARINE...Surface ridging will continue over the coastal waters as a thermally induced low pressure expands northward along the coast. Breezy northerly to northwesterly winds can be expected at times over the coastal waters, but will stay under small craft advisory criteria. The thermal troughing will shift inland early next week for light onshore flow. 27 && .FIRE WEATHER...An upper level ridge building over the area into this weekend will bring a warming and drying trend to western Washington resulting in elevated to critical fire weather conditions. Periods of offshore flow will be possible throughout Friday and Saturday, which will help quickly dry out fuels from recent rains. Hot, dry, and unstable conditions will exceed extreme fire weather criteria for the Cascades and east Olympic mountains. The elevated fire weather conditions are expected to be widespread across the rest of the Cascades and areas south of the sound into the the weekend. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s to upper 90s with minimum RHs dipping into the 15-30 percent range. Overnight RH recoveries will be relatively poor to moderate over the weekend due to the aforementioned periods of offshore flow. Warm and dry conditions look to linger into the early half of next week. && .SEW WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
