Hydrometeorological Discussion
National Weather Service / California Nevada RFC / Sacramento CA

...ANOTHER SURGE OF MOISTURE WILL BRING ADDITIONAL MODERATE PRECIP
TO THE N COAST INTO TONIGHT...
...DRY CONDITIONS THEN RETURN THROUGH THE PERIOD AS HIGH PRESSURE
BUILDS IN...

.METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS (THU PM - WED AM)...

Radar and satellite show the next moisture surge currently making
its way into the north coast as high pressure builds southwest of
CA. Models have precip intensity increasing along the north coast
late this afternoon into this evening before diminishing overnight.
Lingering showers Friday morning before dry conditions are expected
the rest of the period as high pressure builds offshore. Longer term
outlooks continue to predict a return to an active pattern mid next
week.

QPF for the afternoon update was a blend of WPC guidance and the
latest NBM. This has resulted in a reduction of QPF for today by
about 0.10-0.25" along the north coast. All but a few hundredths of
QPF is expected between now and early tomorrow morning. Expecting
0.50-1" or so along the north coast (locally up to 2" Smith
Basin/King Range), 0.25-0.75" for Shasta (locally 1"), 0.10-0.50"
for the rest of nrn CA north of Sonoma County, and maybe a few
hundredths to a tenth over the northern Sierra and into Sonoma
County.

Freezing levels back up to 9.5-12 kft north of I-80 this afternoon
gradually increasing into the weekend with most of the region above
11-12 kft by Sat am.
