...FLOOD WARNING FOR A DAM FLOODGATE RELEASE NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 11
AM EDT THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Flooding along the Hyco River caused by upstream dam
  release continues.

* WHERE...A portion of south central Virginia, including the
  following county, Halifax.

* WHEN...Until 1100 AM EDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of the Hyco River and its surrounding
  tributaries is occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to
  flooding, including Highway 501, Woodsdale Road, Bethel Hill Road,
  Virgilina Road, East Hyco Road, Lowrey Road, Kingwoods Road,
  Buckshoal Road. It will take several hours for water levels to
  recede back within the river banks.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - At 1014 AM EDT, Halifax County Emergency Management,
    indicated ongoing flooding in southern Halifax County, due to
    releases upstream at the Hyco Lake Dam.
  - This includes the following streams and drainages...
    Aarons Creek, Coleman Creek, Grassy Creek, Big Bluewing
    Creek, Bowes Branch, Bales Spring Branch, Hyco River and Dan
    River.
  - Some locations that will experience flooding include...
    Cluster Springs.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
