151 PM MDT Tue Jul 22 2025

.DISCUSSION...

...Yellowstone NP and Teton dispatch areas (includes fire weather
zones 140...414...415...and 416)...

Slightly unstable southwest flow continues today over western and
northwest Wyoming. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible
along the northern fringe of YNP as well as across northern 414
into the Union Pass area through sunset. Otherwise, dry WSW flow
continues into the evening. Southern zone 140 and northern zone
415 may see some light showers between 0000 and 0600. Dry westerly
flow will continue on Wednesday with gusty afternoon winds,
though afternoon temps may be about 2 degrees cooler. Showers and
thunderstorms will return to the southern parts of the dispatch
area Thursday afternoon.

...Cody dispatch area (includes fire weather zones 275...276...
282...283...285...286...287...288...and 289)...

***RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FOR ZONES 283...288...AND 289 UNTIL
8 PM MDT THIS EVENING***

Marginally critical fire weather conditions continue this
afternoon and early evening for the southern portions of the
dispatch area, with conditions relaxing by sunset as winds
decrease and higher humidity air pushes from north to south.
Showers and thunderstorms are over the Absarokas and Bighorn Basin
early this afternoon, and area expected to continue (moving WSW to
ENE) through about 1900. Some storms in the northeast parts of the
dispatch area could become strong and produce brief heavy rain,
one inch hail, and gusty wind of 40-50 mph. Cooler moister air
will move south over the area Wednesday morning, and showers and
thunderstorms will return Wednesday afternoon, with the best
chances in the over the Bighorn Basin.

...Casper dispatch area (includes fire weather zones 277...278...
279...280...281...285...289...and 300)...

***RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FOR ZONES 277...278...279...280...AND
289 UNTIL 8 PM MDT THIS EVENING***

A tale of two different air masses is over the dispatch area
today. Moist cool air with north wind extend over zone 281 into
parts of zone 280 with dry gusty very warm air extending from
southwest into central WY. Conditions for the red flag warning
will improve around 2000 this evening as winds decrease, and the
moister air mass moves southwest into zones 289 and 279. Showers
and thunderstorms are expected late this afternoon and evening
over zone 281, 285, and 281, with some storms over northern zone
281 being strong with hail and 40-50 mph wind gusts. Light showers
may linger over the same area after midnight as north winds
increase. Winds will be somewhat lighter Wednesday with higher
humidities for only elevated fire weather conditions over
southwest WY. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will return
Wednesday afternoon to most of the area, with stronger storms
expected over zones 280 and 281.
