940 FXUS65 KREV 210909 AFDREV Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Reno NV 109 AM PST Fri Feb 21 2025 .SYNOPSIS... * A warming trend will result in spring-like temperatures this weekend into early next week. * A couple of weak systems will bring breezes along with a few showers to northeast CA and northwest NV Sunday and Monday. * Otherwise, no significant winter storms expected through the end of February with a more active weather pattern possible in early March. && .DISCUSSION... Mostly clear skies across the area this morning, due to an upper level ridge pattern building in. However, these clear skies will allow for radiational cooling, bringing areas of freezing fog to the Truckee area. However, any lingering fog will burn off as the sun rises. Dry conditions will prevail for much of the next week with a couple shortwave troughs brushing by the area Saturday night into Sunday and then again Monday night into Tuesday. These troughs will bring light showers to NE CA and along the OR border. However, there is potential for showers to drop into the Tahoe Basin. It`s worthy to note, though, that these are small-scale, quick-moving features. So, there`s some wiggle room on just how far south those showers will reach. The shortwaves will also bring periods of increased gusty afternoon winds, but the strongest gusts will be localized along the Sierra. Finally, it looks like Punxsatawney Phil might have been a bit off in his forecasting. Spring-like temperatures, more reminiscent of April, are expected area-wide through the next week with Monday looking to be the warmest day. Locations across Western Nevada will see high temperatures in the upper 60s while areas in the Sierra will see highs in the mid 50s. -Giralte && .AVIATION... Patchy FZFG possible near KTRK this morning but any lingering fog will burn off around sunrise (14-15Z). VFR conditions with light breezes expected for all terminals through Saturday. -Giralte && .REV Watches/Warnings/Advisories... NV...None. CA...None. && $$
