.DISCUSSION

Easter Sunday will start off nice with fair skies and light winds,
and for the most part less chilly as previous mornings. A short
wave trough aloft passing over the region this afternoon will
encourage more enhanced breezes that will continue into the evening.
Further north across northeast CA closer to the OR border, this
trough will possess enough forcing and mid-level moisture that
brings around a 10-15% chance for some showers forming in more
favorable higher elevation areas west of Highway 395.

The light winds and mild temperatures this morning, however, will at
least provide for a more enjoyable egg hunt. Although the wind gusts
will be for the most part stay below advisory criteria around 25-30
mph, it may still be a good idea before this afternoon to anchor
down more securely that bounce house or celebratory decorations.
Highs today will reach into the low to mid 70s for valley
locations, and 60s around Sierra valleys.

Little will change for the first half of the upcoming week with
daytime temperatures rising some 5-10 degrees above seasonal
averages. Daytime highs will reach into the 70s for western NV, and
60s for Sierra valleys. Overnight lows will drop into the 40s for
Although winds will stay light in the morning with westerly breezes
gusting to near 20-25 mph during the afternoon hours that dissipates
about an hour after sundown. An upper trough will push the trailing
edge of a cold front across northern CA-NV late afternoon and
evening Tuesday will assist in not only enhancing west-southwest
breezes, but also increase isolate shower chances across the
northern Sierra north of the Lake Tahoe basin to the OR border.

Later in the week into next weekend, ensemble simulations continue
to spot light a trough pattern deepening into the western US.
Although ensemble cluster analysis are showing some consistency with
regards to anomalous upper height falls across the region late in
the week, trajectory and relative storm system strength issues need
to be resolved before a more certain forecast call can be made. More
recent multi-model ensemble simulations are trending slightly
drier as well with ECMWF-Ens guidance leading the way towards this
solution. Nevertheless, guidance is pointing towards a cooler and
more unsettled pattern across the Sierra and western Nevada by in
the upcoming week. -Amanda

.AVIATION...

VFR conditions will prevail for main TAF terminals through Monday
with continued fair skies and breezy westerly afternoon wind gusts.
Look for enhanced breezes this afternoon-evening with afternoon
gusts near 20-25 knots for Sierra and WRN-NV terminals. Mountain
ridgetop winds at or above FL100, where winds aloft increase to near
30-40 knots into this evening, will produce periods of light to
moderate turbulence along and east of Sierra Crest. -Amanda
