.DISCUSSION...

Heat through Wednesday AM:

* A strengthening subtropical ridge shifts inland to start the week,
driving a significant warm-up and prompting a Heat Advisory Monday
through Wednesday for western Nevada valleys and parts of
northeast California. Highs will peak between 98-105 degrees in
western Nevada, with the hottest day for most areas on Tuesday.
Sierra valleys will reach the mid to upper 80s, with some lower
90s possible for warmer locations like Bridgeport and Mammoth
Lakes. Overnight lows in western Nevada will remain in the upper
60s to low 70s, limiting relief and increasing heat stress for
sensitive groups, outdoor workers, and those without adequate
  cooling.

Showers/Thunderstorms and Increasing Winds Mid to Late Week:

* As the ridge axis slides east Tuesday into Wednesday, modest
moisture will lift north along the Sierra crest, bringing a chance
for isolated, high-based thunderstorms mainly for Mono and Alpine
counties and possibly into far western Nevada Wednesday. These
storms could produce gusty, erratic outflow winds, brief
downpours, and occasional lightning. By Wednesday afternoon, a
Pacific Northwest trough will tighten the pressure gradient, with
a 60-75% probability of wind gusts over 35 mph in lower western
Nevada and a 40-50% probability in Sierra valleys. Ridge gusts may
exceed 40 mph. Minimum RH will fall into the single digits to low
teens for lower valleys, supporting localized elevated fire
weather concerns in far northern Washoe, northern Pershing, and
parts of Lassen County. Temperatures will cool 5-10 degrees by
Thursday-Friday, returning closer to seasonal normals.

.AVIATION...

* VFR conditions will prevail through the next 24 hours. Light haze
is possible late tonight into Monday morning for KMMH, KMEV, and
KBAN, with some slant-range visibility reductions in the morning
hours before improving by late morning with mixing. Surface winds
will remain SW-W 5-10 kts today with afternoon gusts 15-20 kts,
increasing slightly Monday afternoon from the W-NW at 15-20 kts.
Hot temperatures through midweek will create elevated density
altitude concerns at all regional airports, especially in the
  Sierra and higher-elevation terminals.

* Looking beyond 24 hours, isolated high-based thunderstorms are
possible Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon mainly along the Sierra
crest, with outflow gusts exceeding 35 kts possible near any
cells. By Wednesday, a stronger westerly gradient will bring more
widespread surface gusts of 25-35 kts across lower western Nevada
terminals. This will result in periods of turbulence and possible
  LLWS.
