The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Pueblo, Colorado will be conducting a required, scheduled update to their Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) computer starting at 6 AM Tuesday June 3rd, and lasting through 6 PM Thursday June 5th. The NWS uses AWIPS to display and integrate weather and water information, and to send life saving weather and water warnings to the public. During the time of the update, forecast operations will be conducted by our NWS service back up office in Boulder, Colorado to minimize any potential interruption to services. No impacts to our core services of forecast products and weather watches, warnings and advisories are expected during this period. However, limited impacts will occur to the following services. All NOAA Weather Radio Transmitters maintained by NWS Pueblo will be off the air throughout the time of the install. This includes WXM-52 for the Pueblo area, WXM-54 for Alamosa and the San Luis Valley, WXM-56 for the Colorado Springs area, KJY-81 for the Canon City area, WNG-579 for the Walsenburg area, WWG-23 for the La Junta area, WWG-44 for the Fowler area, KWN-60 for the Lamar area, and WNG-664 for the Springfield area. All NOAA Weather Radio broadcast products, including severe weather and flood warnings, as well as weather forecasts for south central and southeast Colorado will be available on our homepage, weather.gov/pub. Severe weather warnings will still be sent through the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) System and other weather apps. NWS Pueblo will remain open and staffed throughout this period for public and partner phone calls and additional functions that can be completed without AWIPS.
