Over the high country, moderate to heavy snowfall is likely (80-90% chance) for the majority of our ranges. hazardous mountain travel with snow covered roads and local areas of blowing snow is expected for this afternoon and tonight, especially through mountain passes. For the lower elevations, precipitation will likely start as rain in many locations, and many locations could also see several hours of rain/snow mix, along with freezing, melting, and refreezing conditions, before an eventual transition to all snow as temperatures drop later tonight. This will lead to hazardous travel conditions, especially along highway 50 this evening. Northern and southern portions of I-25 over the Palmer Divide and Raton Mesa are also likely to be hazardous this afternoon and evening commute, and through the overnight hours, with snow expected at both locations. Please use caution on area roadways this afternoon and tonight, and don`t forget to check travel conditions by calling 5 1 1 or at www.cotrip.org. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday Ongoing widespread moderate to heavy snow over and near the higher terrain early Saturday morning, will slowly diminish from north to south through the day, before ending late Saturday afternoon and evening. Hazardous travel conditions can be expected Friday night and Saturday with wet, slushy and snow packed roads expected over and near the higher terrain. The wet, heavy snow may also damage trees that have started to leaf out. Total snowfall of up to 1 and locally 2 feet will be possible across eastern San Juan, Sangre de Cristo and Wet mountains, with 6 to 12 inches possible across Teller county, northern Fremont county and across the mid and upper Arkansas River Valley into the Wet Mountain Valley. Snow fall of 4 to 8 inches will be possible across the Central and La Garita mountains, the Upper Rio Grande Valley, eastern Fremont county and along the southern I-25 Corridor, including Walsenburg and Trinidad. Snowfall of 3 to 6 inches will be possible across the San Luis Valley and El Paso county, with a trace up to 3 inches possible across the rest of southeast Colorado. Warmer and drier weather remains in the offing for Easter Sunday and into early next week. At to slightly above seasonal temperatures then continue for the rest of the work week, with increasing chances of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, especially across the far southeast Plains. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Weather conditions that meet reporting criteria for spotters will be likely over portions of the region. $$ Hodanish
