.Discussion...
An upper level weather system will cross the region today and
Monday, bringing a better chance for some precipitation to the
region, as well as slightly cooler temperatures on Monday.
Drying and a slow warming trend return beginning Tuesday and
continuing through the end of the work week.
Strong southwest winds gusting to 30 to 50 mph today will produce
widespread critical fire weather conditions across much of the
eastern plains as well as portions of the San Luis Valley. As has
been noted this past week, no fire weather highlights are
anticipated at this time due to fuels still going through green-up.
Areas of blowing dust and reduced visibility will be possible across
the San Luis Valley today as well with the strong winds.
Snow will return to the Continental Divide today, lasting through
Monday morning. 4 to 8 inches of new snow can be expected across the
higher peaks, with locally heavier amounts possible. Areas of
blowing and drifting snow are anticipated.
Surface-based inversions will break early today, between 0800 and
0900, with ventilation rates improving to Excellent for much of the
district by 1200 and lasting until 2000. Smoke dispersion trends for
Monday will be similar in timing, with ventilation rates improving
to Very Good for most areas.
