.Discussion...
West to southwest flow aloft, combined with easterly winds at the
surface, will produce a very good chance for strong to severe
thunderstorms across the eastern plains this afternoon and evening,
with all modes of severe weather possible. Shower and storm activity
is expected to be slightly less for Saturday, then from Sunday on
there will be a daily shot of convection, mainly tied to the higher
terrain and adjacent plains. Temperatures will remain at or slightly
below seasonal levels through the weekend into the next work week.
Surface-based inversions will begin to break across the higher
terrain today between 0900 and 1000, with ventilation rates
improving to Excellent for fire zones 220 through 225 and lasting
until 2000. Smoke dispersion across the plains today, fire zones 226
through 237, will only improve to Fair at best. Smoke dispersion
across the district is expected to be improved for a larger area on
Saturday.
