.Discussion...
Critical fire weather conditions are not expected through the next
seven days. Snow begins to spread into the San Juans today as an
incoming low begins to make its way towards our area. Snow amounts
will be light today, increasing through the overnight hours. The
rest of the forecast area looks to remain dry for our Wednesday,
with warmer than normal temperatures.
Snow chances spread into the rest of the Continental Divide and the
eastern mountains late tonight and into Thursday, with heavy snow
expected over the San Juans and the Sangres throughout most of
Thursday and into Friday morning. Travel may be hazardous,
especially through mountain passes. Winter Weather Advisories are in
effect for both the San Juans and the Sangres through this
timeframe, with 8-10 inches of new snow expected through the event.
Wetting rains are likely over the plains from Thursday morning
through Friday morning, with highest amounts further eastwards. A
brief transition to snow with light accumulations will be possible
over the Palmer Divide and the Raton Thursday night into Friday
morning.
A lull is expected through the weekend, with another system and more
chances for rain and snow possible towards the first half of next
week.
Afternoon smoke dispersions will be mainly fair or good over the
high country, the San Luis Valley, and the I-25 corridor today, with
poor rates over portions of the plains. Rates will be poor across
the district tomorrow.
