The National Weather Service in Pueblo has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  The Chalk Cliffs Area in...
  Central Chaffee County in central Colorado...

* Until 545 PM MDT.

* At 444 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain over the Chalk Cliffs Area. Between 1.5 and 2 inches of
  rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are
  possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected
  to begin shortly.

Excessive rainfall over the warning area could cause mud slides near
steep terrain. The mud slide can consist of rock, mud, vegetation
and other loose materials.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms in and around
           the Chalk Cliffs Area.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Flooding of areas in and around the Chalk Cliffs Area.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  mainly rural areas of Central Chaffee County

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

This is a life threatening situation. Heavy rainfall could cause
extensive and severe flash flooding of creeks...streams...and
ditches in the Chalk Cliffs Area. Severe debris flows can also be
anticipated across roads. Roads and driveways may be washed away in
places. If you encounter flood waters...climb to safety.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or
creeks.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law
enforcement and request they pass this information to the National
Weather Service when you can do so safely.
