- Quieter and warmer conditions prevail through the upcoming
  week.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY/...
Issued at 217 PM MST Sat Feb 22 2025

Currently, nice late winter day across the area, with light winds
and temps near/slightly above late Feb averages at most locations.
Tonight and Sunday, weak upper wave slides through the area, though
only impacts will be a slight increase in clouds and lee-slope winds
from late tonight in Sunday afternoon. Winds will keep min temps a
little milder than the past few night, especially favored east slope
locations along and west of I-25. On Sunday, another mild day on
tap, as deeper mixing bumps up maxes to well above seasonal values,
and expect 60s to make a welcome return to the plains in the
afternoon. Current forecast covers the situation nicely, only change
of note was to increase upper Arkansas Valley winds a bit for
Sunday, with locations around Salida and Buena Vista likely gusting
up to 25 mph in the afternoon.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Issued at 217 PM MST Sat Feb 22 2025

Sunday Night - Friday: For the upcoming new week, quiet weather is
anticipated to prevail for south central and southeastern Colorado.
Synoptically, a broad ridge of high pressure will build across the
western US and expand across the region. Given the increased descent
and lack of major forcing, dry conditions are expected for the area
during much of the next week. The exception to this may be around
the Wednesday timeframe, when a shortwave pushes southward along the
eastern side of the ridge and over the area, bringing an uptick in
forcing, and allowing for at least isolated showers to blossom along
the mountains, particularly the central mountains. Otherwise,
occasional pockets of mid to high level clouds and relatively light
winds are anticipated. With that said though, winds will increase
and become a bit more breezy Tuesday ahead of the midweek wave, and
Wednesday, as the wave and an associated cold front pushes over.
Along with that, at least spotty critical fire weather conditions
will be possible for portions of the area both Tuesday and Wednesday
given the surge in winds in combination with the warm and dry
conditions. Looking at temperatures, with the ridge in place, and
periods of at least modest downsloping winds, most of the area will
warm to 10-20F above seasonal values through this upcoming week. The
exception to this is expected Wednesday, as the alluded to cold
front drops southward over the area and drops temperatures back down
to around seasonal values for late February.
