Public Information Statement
National Weather Service Portland OR
330 PM PST Fri May 16 2025

The National Weather Service Portland in Oregon will be conducting a
required, scheduled update to their Advanced Weather Interactive
Processing System (AWIPS) system beginning around 7 AM Monday May
19th through approximately 5 PM on Wednesday May 21st. The NWS uses
the AWIPS computer system to display and integrate weather and water
information, and to send life-saving information, such as weather
and water warnings, to the public.

During the time of the update, forecast operations will be conducted
through our service back-up system to minimize any potential
interruption to services. Our core services of forecast products
and weather watches, warnings and advisories will continue during
this period. However, some impacts will occur to the following
services:

      * NOAA Weather Transmitters: All NOAA Weather Radio
transmitters maintained by NWS Portland will be off air through the
time of the install. This includes the following transmitters in
Florence, Newport, Mt Hebo, Tillamook, Neahkahnie Mountain, Astoria,
Woodland, Portland, Salem and Eugene. This will result in NOAA
weather radio being unavailable from 7 AM Monday May 19th to
approximately 5 PM Wednesday May 21st across much of northwest
Oregon and southwest Washington.

      * The normally scheduled Routine Weekly Test on Wednesdays
will not happen on May 21st 2025.

      * The SRFPQR forecast will be unavailable.

      * Daily CLI and CF6 products will be unavailable.

      * Weather and river forecasts and observations on our phone
system will either be offline or at least contain old data during
this three day update.

      * Local graphical forecast maps that are hosted in numerous
places on www.weather.gov/pqr will not be updated. This includes all
maps on the Graphical Hazardous Weather Outlook page
(https://www.weather.gov/erh/ghwo?wfo=pqr), the majority of the
graphics on the county specific webpages
(https://www.weather.gov/pqr/countySummer) and on our Winter Weather
page (https://www.weather.gov/pqr/winter).

The forecast office in Portland, Oregon will remain open and staffed
throughout this period for partner phone calls and to maintain the
flow of products and services.
