...MONITORING INVEST 94W IN EASTERN MICRONESIA FOR FURTHER
DEVELOPMENT...
...LOCALLY HEAVY SHOWERS AND GUSTY WINDS EXPECTED SATURDAY THROUGH
MONDAY...

The Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) has opened Invest 94W for a
tropical disturbance over southwest Pohnpei State, currently located
near Nukuoro near 3N156E. There is moderate to deep convection spread
across a broad area covering portions of Chuuk State and Pohnpei
State, focused mainly west and northwest of the center in the
vicinity of and south of Chuuk Proper, as seen in latest satellite
imagery. This morning`s scatterometry shows an area of 15 to 25 knot
winds associated with convection south of Pohnpei, north of a broad,
weak surface circulation.

This disturbance is favored to organize as it shifts northwest over
the next few days, likely passing just south of Chuuk Proper tomorrow
through tomorrow night, then continuing through eastern Yap State on
Sunday and Sunday night. This will bring continued unsettled weather
to Chuuk State, which then looks to spread over eastern Yap State,
including Faraulep, Woleai, and Satawal. Locally heavy showers and
gusty winds are expected. Travel between islands could become
hazardous as thunderstorm activity, the potential for strong gusts,
and choppy seas increase.

Folks across Chuuk State and eastern Yap State should monitor local
weather forecasts the next couple of days from the National Weather
Service in Guam, and for additional information from your local
Weather Service Office and emergency management. Visit
weather.gov/gum/PublicForecasts for the latest weather information
from the National Weather Service.
