Tropical Depression 32W has been slow to consolidate over the last 12 hours, but it appears far more organized this morning, with satellite showing widespread heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms covering much of Yap State. Deep convection is focused about the circulation center which is now located at 9.7N 140.6E. 32W has been moving west-northwestward at around 14 mph this morning, and is expected to continue on to the northwest over the next 12 hours or so, then make a slight turn back toward the west-northwest. This general forecast track will take TD 32W not very far north of Fais and Ulithi, and a Tropical Storm Warning remains in effect for these locations. In the meantime, the Tropical Storm Watch will likely be cancelled for Faraulep as the slow-developing TD 32W moves further away and the likelihood of damaging winds continues to diminish. Widespread heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue across western and central Yap state, while gradually moving out of eastern Yap state over the next 12-24 hours. If 32W maintains a more westerly track, watches may be necessary for Yap Island. Winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph and seas up to 14 ft around 32W will make inter-island travel treacherous across nearly all of Yap State, and such travel should be delayed until conditions improve. Surf will be elevated due to the background westerly swell from the monsoon pattern and the swell and wind waves being generated from TD 32W. Elevated surf, along with elevated high tides around the full moon tonight, may lead to minor splash-over/run-up on beaches, mainly along south and west facing shores. Residents and mariners should monitor the latest forecasts for the region at weather.gov/gum/PublicForecasts and any information shared by WSO Yap for their local regions. For more information on Tropical Depression 32W please see bulletins issued by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center under WMO header WTPN32 PGTW and the National Weather Service WMO headers WTPQ32 and WTPQ82 PGUM. $$ DeCou
