004 WWPQ81 PGUM 181758 SPSPQ1 SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TIYAN GU 358 AM ChST Sun Jul 19 2026 PMZ173-174-190800- POHNPEI-KOSRAE- 358 AM ChST Sun Jul 19 2026 ...SOUTHWEST AND SOUTHEAST SWELLS WILL CONTINUE THROUGH TONIGHT... A tropical disturbance, Invest 90W, has opened up into an open trough and shifted closer to just over Chuuk, with little to no convection associated with it as a disconnected mid-level vorticity continues to move away from the area to the northwest. In addition, the bulk of the convective activity has shifted to a buffer circulation center near EQ161E, taking away moisture from the area that could have fueled the expected intense showers near Pohnpei and Kosrae. As such, heavy rainfall and gusty winds are no longer likely to develop at Pohnpei and Kosrae at this time, so this will be the last issuance of this Special Weather Statement for this event. However, a southwest to west swell generated by persistent monsoonal winds, as well as a stronger southeast swell produced by the southern ITCZ-like features, will remain in the area and continue to produce surf along south and west facing reefs of Pohnpei and Kosrae the next few days. Even so, surf is not likely to reach hazardous levels. $$ PMZ181-190800- MAJURO- 358 AM ChST Sun Jul 19 2026 ...A SOUTHEAST SWELL WILL CONTINUE THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT... A stronger southeast swell produced by the southern ITCZ-like features will continue to bring a chance for coastal erosion and potentially some nuisance coastal flooding to south-facing reefs of Majuro the next day or so. Any information to such effects should be reported to the Majuro Weather Service Office when possible. At the very least, mariners should continue to take this unusual wind and swell direction into consideration when making any inter-island travel plans. This will be the last issuance of this Special Weather Statement for this event. $$ Montvila
