883 WTPQ81 PGUM 090004 HLSPQ1 URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED TROPICAL CYCLONE LOCAL STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TIYAN GU 1004 AM ChST Sat May 9 2026 ...TROPICAL STORM HAGUPIT CONTINUES MOVING WEST AND AWAY FROM YAP AS CONDITIONS IMPROVE AT YAP AND NGULU... .NEW INFORMATION... A Tropical Storm Warning is cancelled for Ngulu in Yap State, and Yap Proper and adjacent coastal waters. .AREAS AFFECTED... This local statement provides information and recommended action for people on Yap and Ngulu in Yap State. .WATCHES/WARNINGS... A Tropical Storm Warning is cancelled for Ngulu in Yap State, and Yap Proper and adjacent coastal waters. .STORM INFORMATION... At 700 AM ChST, the center of Tropical Storm Hagupit was located near Latitude 8.9 degrees North and Longitude 136.6 degrees East. Hagupit is moving west at 10 mph. It is expected to make a slight turn toward the west-northwest with little change in forward speed through Sunday as it continues to move away from Yap. Maximum sustained winds remain at 40 mph. Hagupit is forecast to maintain this intensity through tonight, remaining a weak tropical storm through at least tonight. Tropical storm force winds extend outward from the center up to 85 miles to the northeast. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... Hagupit is now about 115 miles west-southwest of Yap Proper, continuing to move away from Yap over the next few days. Tropical Storm force southeast winds are no longer expected to continue at Yap and Ngulu, in addition to rainfall intensity expected to weaken considerably, as indicated by warming cloud tops along the northeastern flanks of Hagupit. .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Damaging winds are no longer expected. However, occasional Tropical Storm force gusts up to 40 mph are still possible near showers the rest of this morning. .NEXT UPDATE... This will be the last scheduled local statement issued by the National Weather Service for Tropical Storm Hagupit (05W). && ...YAP AND NGULU... ...TROPICAL STORM WARNING IS CANCELLED... .PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Damaging winds are no longer expected. However, occasional Tropical Storm force gusts up to 40 mph are still possible near showers the rest of this morning. .WIND INFORMATION... Southeast winds of 20 to 30 mph with occasional gusts to 40 mph are expected to continue the rest of this morning. Fresh to strong conditions are expected to persist overnight, before dropping down to moderate to fresh with some strong gusts as early as Sunday. .COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION... Potentially hazardous surf and minor coastal inundation, along with some beach erosion is still expected the rest of today, with surf expected to drop below hazardous levels by tonight. .OTHER STORM EFFECTS... Periods of heavy rainfall are still likely, especially at Ngulu the rest of today. The heaviest showers are expected near the center, with rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches possible. Seas of 9 to 12 feet are likely to taper down further this afternoon as the system continues to move away to the west and eventually exit the region. $$ Montvila
