Seek a suitable hardened shelter where available, ideally a concrete structure. Prepare sufficient food and water for each person for a day or two, because a monsoon surge is likely to continue for a while after Tropical Storm Krosa has passed. .WIND INFORMATION... The latest forecast track shows Krosa moving generally north- northeastward through Sunday, passing near or just west of Maug Saturday night, then turning slightly back towards the north on Sunday. The passage of Krosa west of the islands will cause southeast winds to shift more southerly and increase through tonight, with widespread locally heavy showers bringing frequent strong gusts. Latest forecast projections show southerly tropical storm winds of 35 to 45 mph arriving overnight, gradually shifting from south to southwest through Saturday, remaining out of the southwest as winds diminish through Sunday. For islands further to the north and west, including Agrihan, strong tropical storm force winds of 50 to 60 mph will be possible as early as Saturday morning until early Sunday morning. After the passage of TS Krosa, a strong southwest monsoon pattern will prolong windy conditions through Sunday night. .COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION... Surf will continue to rise along south and west facing reefs tonight with a greater increase along west facing reefs Saturday, well exceeding hazardous levels of 9 ft. Surf along these windward shores will likely exceed dangerous levels of 15 ft through Saturday before peaking at 15 to 20 ft Saturday night. Surf will begin to subside Sunday, possibly falling below 15 ft dangerous levels by Sunday night. Surf will likely remain at hazardous levels of 10 to 14 ft into early next week due to the persistent monsoon flow. Rip currents during this time will be strong and life threatening. Stay out of the water. Wind and wave-driven coastal inundation of 1 to 3 ft will be possible along windward shores, especially around times of high tide as surf reaches peak heights Saturday and Sunday. .OTHER STORM EFFECTS... Widespread locally heavy showers will increase Saturday and Sunday as TS Krosa passes to the west, with the bulk of rainfall expected from early Saturday morning through Saturday night. Additional rainfall accumulations of 6 to 10 inches are possible through Monday. Even after Krosa begins to move away Sunday and Monday, a wet monsoon pattern will prolong showers across the islands. $$ DeCou
