Tropical Weather Discussion
National Weather Service Tiyan GU
1052 AM ChST Fri Apr 18 2025

Tropical Weather Discussion for the Western North Pacific between
the Equator and 25N from 130E to 180. The following information is
based on recent satellite imagery/data, weather observations, radar,
and meteorological analysis.

...SPECIAL FEATURES...

None.

...OTHER WEATHER SYSTEMS...

NEAR EQUATORIAL TROUGH...
A Near Equatorial Trough (NET) extends east-southeast from south of
Mindanao across 130E near 3N to beyond the Equator near 139E.
Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are found near and
north of the NET, south of Palau and Yap. The NET looks to remain
quasi- stationary over the coming days with little change in
intensity.

TRADE-WIND TROUGHS...
A few trade-wind troughs are evident across the region. The first is
found near Palau, stretching east-southeast from near 9N133E to near
5N140E. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are present
over Palau, including Kayangel south to Koror, to south of Yap Proper
and Ngulu. This trough will continue to move slowly west-southwest
over the coming days, with little change in intensity.

A third trough is found well east of the Marianas, west of Wake
Island, stretching north-northeast from near 15N159E to 25N164E. Weak
convergence associated with this trough is generating a narrow band
of clouds and showers between the Northern CNMI and Wake Island. This
trough and convergence is forecast to continue to move west,
affecting the northern CNMI late in the weekend. Little change in
intensity is expected.

The last trade-wind trough is found over Butaritari and Tarawa,
southeast of Majuro, stretching south from near 5N175E to beyond the
equator near 174E. This trough is interacting with a developing band
of trade-wind convergence to generate scattered to numerous showers
and isolated thunderstorms south of 4N. The trough is expected to
move west over the next several days, helping to spread the band of
convergence westward, with a possible slight increase in intensity as
it approaches Kosrae.

OTHER SYSTEMS...
A band of trade-wind convergence is found south of the Marshall
Islands, stretching east-northeastward from near EQ170E to beyond the
Date Line near 3N. Scattered to numerous showers and isolated
thunderstorms are found across Tarawa and Butaritari to beyond the
Date Line, south of 4N. This band of convergence is expected to
expand westward over the coming days as a trade-wind trough moves
west near the western end of the convergence. Although the band is
expected to spread west, the convergence looks to weaken a bit as it
also widens.
