Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
202 PM SST Wed Jul 2 2025

.Short term...
TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY...A moist airmass that triggered heavy
rainfall last night and this morning continues to move westward.
Showers have diminished since, and a drier weather pattern is
expected through the weekend.

The strong high pressure system from previous forecasts will
maintain breezy trade winds, reaching near advisory thresholds
(25 mph or greater) Thursday as the high continues to build.
Passing showers will persist across the Islands for the short term
forecast.

.Long term...
SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY...As the aforementioned high moves
southeast, expect winds to gradually diminish Saturday. Latest
models suggest southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph will persist
through the new week, instead of the breezy winds that were
expected from another high pressure system developing near New
Zealand. It seems the latter high isn`t as strong as the current
one. Will continue to monitor the long term forecast with new
information available.

&&

.Marine...
Rough and hazardous seas will continue through the weekend,
peaking on the July 4th Holiday as winds near advisory thresholds
build to the east. Wave heights may build to 12 to 14 feet for the
Friday through Saturday timeframe. Even as seas gradually subside
Sunday, wave heights are still expected to be around 9 feet,
until Monday.
