003 FXZS60 NSTU 200128 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 228 PM SST Sat Jul 19 2025 .Short term... Throughout the morning and early afternoon hours, passing showers have been observed moving over all islands of American Samoa. However, these showers have been brief and not heavy enough to cause flash flooding. This weather is expected to continue through midday Sunday. Therefore, numerous showers are forecast in the form of passing showers during this time. Light easterlies remain, but may reach up to 15 mph at times. By Sunday night, drier air will move into the lower levels of the atmosphere to likely give mainly clear skies with isolated showers. Another weak trough enters the region on Monday to give a scattered passing showers forecast (40% chance), but increasing to numerous showers (60% chance) on Monday night and Tuesday. Winds are to be light and variable, but may be some gusts in rainfall. Rainfall is not expected to cause flash flooding. Overall, no severe weather is anticipated through Tuesday with winds below normal for this time of the year. .Long term... From Tuesday night through the rest of the week, rainfall is projected to be above average without severe weather as a trough remains near the region with saturated low levels of the atmosphere to help produce rainfall. Winds are also forecast to be below normal. && .Marine... Ideal conditions today for mariners on the American Samoa coastal waters with waves just under 5 feet shown on the PacIOOS buoys to the east of Aunu`u and to the west of Tutuila. Even though seas are to build to 5 to 7 feet, below Small Craft Advisory levels, tonight through Tuesday, choppy conditions are expected with a southerly swell mixing with easterly wind driven waves. Seas are expected to be closer to the 5 foot mark once again for Wednesday through early Thursday before building throughout the day Thursday through the beginning of the weekend. && .PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
