Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
210 PM SST Sat Nov 23 2024

.DISCUSSION...
The latest satellite imageries show the trough remaining nearly
stationary in the area, extending from west to east, just north of
the American Samoa Islands. This trough shows thunderstorms with
heavy showers embedded. With moderate winds turning northeast this
afternoon, moisture within the northeast flow will also move
toward the territory, tonight. By tonight, winds will decrease to
a more light and gentle breeze through at least Sunday before
turning east on Sunday night.

Model data suggests that a high pressure system to the south will
hold the trough in place throughout the forecast period. The
trough will likely oscillate north and south of the area, bringing
showers and the possibility of thunderstorms across the islands
from time to time. The light to moderate easterlies will also
remain for this forecast period. Therefore, expect scattered to
numerous showers with gentle to modereate easterlies for the long
term forecast period.

There is a low chance of a tropical system to develop in the
region for the next 7 days.

remain at a light and variable easterly breeze tonight through
Sunday night, slightly increasing to a gentle to moderate breeze
for the rest of the forecast period. There is no significant
swell expected for this time frame.
