.Discussion...
A broad line of cumulus clouds just south of the Samoa Islands
extends from Cook Islands to Fiji. This feature depicts showers
embedded within the trade wind flow. The high pressure system to
the southeast producing these trades will eventually push the line
of cumulus over the territory tonight, bringing an uptick in
showers. Additionally, winds are expected to enhance to near-wind
advisory levels (25 mph or greater) tonight through Friday. Gusts
of 22 knots has been observed at the local weather office and 19
knots at 1000 mb via the afternoon sounding, which supports this
forecast.

By Saturday, the high pressure will continue to move southeast.
Expect winds to gradually diminish during this time as the high
exits the region. Meanwhile, a weak trough may develop in the
area, holding numerous showers through the new week.

East to southeast winds will prevail through midweek, while the
territory lingers in an area between a moist boundary and another
high pressure system building near New Zealand. However, the
latter high doesn`t appear to be as strong as the one currently
dominating over the Islands.

Latest wave heights observed at the Aunu`u PacIOOS buoy are
around 8 to 10 feet. Although waves were forecast to start
building today, the data shows there may be a slight delay in this
trend. However, we are still anticipating higher wave heights for
the July 4th holiday, reaching 11 to 12 feet due to a nearby-east
swell. Hazardous ocean conditions and surfs are likely for the
long weekend.

Expect waves to subside below advisory levels Sunday as winds and
swells finally diminish.
