Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Pago Pago AS
211 PM SST Thu Nov 21 2024

.DISCUSSION...
The latest satellite imageries continue to show an active trough
over the area. This trough has continually produced single cell
convections that brings heavy downpours with gusty winds at
times. Thunderstorms are also possible and are expected to linger
in the area. These conditions will likely remain for the rest of
the week. Model data shows the trough remaining over the area
through the new week. A high pressure system to the south will
likely hold the trough line nearly stationary for this forecast
period. The moderate to fresh easterlies will remain through at
least early Saturday morning before decreasing to a gentle to
moderate breeze for the rest of the forecast period. Therefore,
expect numerous to widespread showers with potential
thunderstorms. Expect the likelihood of flash flooding conditions
to remain over the area from time to time.

.Marine...
Latest data from the PacIOOS buoy near Aunu`u show heights in the
8 to 10 feet range with periods less than 10 seconds. With these
heights, thunderstorms nearby and the moderate to fresh
easterlies, seas will likely remain in the advisory threshold
through tonight. However, model data shows a downward trend in
seas as winds will also decrease by Friday through the end of the
forecast period. Therefore, expect the advisory for small crafts
to remain through tonight, improving thereafter.
