156 FXZS60 NSTU 210119 AFDPPG Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pago Pago AS 219 PM SST Wed Aug 20 2025 .Short term... Latest satellite loops show fair-weather cumulus over the region as a mid-level high pressure lingers. Meanwhile, to the north and south of the territory lie two different troughs. Isolated showers will gradually change to widespread from tonight through Thursday night due to the northeast trough. The diminishing mid- level high pressure and receding surface high to the southwest will allow the aforementioned trough to approach the territory. The GFS model has finally aligned with the rest of the model solutions, which shows the trough becoming active Thursday night through Friday. Hence, widespread showers and thunderstorm activity are possible for this timeframe. .Long term... By Friday afternoon, the trough will continue to migrate southwest, thus lowering the potential for flash flooding. Expect scattered showers and breezy east winds to dominate through midweek. By the end of the forecast period, another trough is expected to develop in the area. Expect a possible uptick in showers for this time. && .Marine... Wave heights remain around 6 to 8 feet according to the PacIOOS buoy data. However, peak periods around 16 seconds confirms a strong swell from the south. This observation suggests high surfs and hazardous rip currents are likely for south-facing shores. A High Surf Advisory is in effect until Thursday when swells are expected to subside. Additionally, a small craft advisory remains in effect until the breezy pattern subsides next week. && .PPG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... High Surf Advisory Small Craft Advisory && $$ TM
