759 FXUS66 KPDT 072349 AFDPDT Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Pendleton OR 449 PM PDT Tue Oct 7 2025 Updated Aviation Discussion .DISCUSSION...Effective radiative cooling with clear, calm conditions continues overnight as the upper-level ridge of high pressure continues to take place over the Pacific Northwest. We`ll see another round isolated/patchy areas of frost across the coldest parts of Central OR and other parts of the Southern Blues. Lows tonight will be a tad warmer than last night, so not expecting as much freezing tonight. Areas across the higher terrains and the deep sheltered valley areas will see lows dip just below/at freezing (30-50% confidence). Our next weather system will originate from the Gulf of Alaska, as a trough digs south through the mid-week, gradually transitioning into a low pressure system through Thursday. After the initial low progresses pass the area, a second shortwave is expected to develop right behind the low, to extend rain/mountain snow chances through Sunday/early Monday. Precip chances will be highest Friday going into Sunday, with chances higher in elevated/mountain regions (70-90% chance) than in the Basin (30-50% chance). Snow levels will drop to 4500-5000 feet Saturday- Sunday, allowing chances for measurable snow to accumulate in the mountains (50-80% chance). As the next shortwave makes its way into the region Sunday, models suggest winds will get stronger, especially across the Columbia Basin/Gorge and the Cascade Gaps. NBM suggests 40-60% chances of wind gusts 45 mph or greater going through Sunday. .AVIATION...00Z TAFs...VFR conditions to prevail through the period. Winds will be light, 12kts or less, and diurnally/terrain driven. Lawhorn/82 && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
