.PREV DISCUSSION... /issued 212 PM PDT Tue Aug 19 2025/

DISCUSSION...Current satellite imagery shows mainly clear skies
over the region with frontal boundary moving upstream offshore of
the region, bringing few clouds over the WA Cascades. Otherwise,
the weather will remain quiet and warm.

Today-Thursday: The PacNW will be in between systems with the
shortwave trough over the coast of British Columbia and the ridge
building to our southeast. Through Wednesday, this synoptic
pattern will help keep the high temperatures near-seasonable.
Daytime RHs are slightly above critical thresholds since they will
be in the 30s as well. With the high pressure system building
over, temps will then slightly increase few degrees above normal
Thursday as the RHs also begins trending downward. Winds will
generally be light to breezy with gusts under 25 mph across the
region. No fire weather concerns are to be anticipated for these
days, given that the winds not overlapping as much with the low
RHs.

Friday onwards: Hot and drier conditions will return Friday into
early next week as the high pressure system and dry airmass remain
over our region. High temps may reach to the upper 90s across
majority of the low elevations and low 100s over mainly Columbia
Basin area, leading towards moderate to major HeatRisk. These
temperatures may potentially warrant heat advisories for those
days. Daytime RHs will continue trending downward into the teens
and low 20s with winds remaining breezy. However, we are looking
at low RHs and sustained winds of 15 mph or greater to overlap
Friday from the Columbia River Gorge down to Central OR. That
said, this could promote elevated fire weather concerns for those
aforementioned areas as well but will continue to monitor for any
changes. Thunderstorms may develop over the southern portion of
the eastern mountains Sunday into Tuesday from the influence of
the monsoonal moisture. However, chances are on the low-end (<30%)
due to lack of moisture support and weak instability. Feaster/97
