A thunderstorm caused significant widespread wind damage across southeast Wayne County late Tuesday afternoon. .Southeast Fairfield, IL... Rating: TSTM/Wind Estimated Peak Wind: 100 mph Path Length /statute/: 8.06 miles Path Width /maximum/: 3800 yards Fatalities: 0 Injuries: 0 Start Date: 04/29/2025 Start Time: 03:13 PM CDT Start Location: 4 SSW Fairfield / Wayne County / IL Start Lat/Lon: 38.3206 / -88.4073 End Date: 04/29/2025 End Time: 03:20 PM CDT End Location: 4 WNW Golden Gate / Wayne County / IL End Lat/Lon: 38.3758 / -88.2765 Survey Summary: Widespread wind damage of 70 to 100 mph occurred across portions of Wayne County to the south and east of Fairfield. Dozens of trees were snapped or uprooted. Numerous homes received shingle or siding damage. Many outbuildings were damaged or destroyed. The area of more concentrated damage began near County Road 500N to the west of County Road 1650N and continued to the east- northeast. The Burkitt-Laws Lake area near Hwy 45 received some of the more significant damage and so did the Merriam Crossroads area along Hwy 15 to the east of Fairfield. && EF Scale: The Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes into the following categories: EF0.....65 to 85 mph EF1.....86 to 110 mph EF2.....111 to 135 mph EF3.....136 to 165 mph EF4.....166 to 200 mph EF5.....>200 mph NOTE: The information in this statement is preliminary and subject to change pending final review of the event and publication in NWS Storm Data. $$
