.DISCUSSION...

Today and tomorrow: Temperatures today will continue to warm up into
the 80s and 90s as the ridge axis approaches the Washington coast. A
weak surface high pressure in central BC has led to breezy north
winds 10-20 mph gusting up to 25 mph down the Okanogan valley,
which has led to elevated fire danger. This northerly gradient
will keep central Washington fairly warm tonight with lows in
the 60s. Temperatures Sunday will be very warm in the 90s just
about everywhere as the high pressure ridge continues to
strengthen on the Oregon coast. Very low spots (750 ft or lower)
in the Wenatchee area and the lower Columbia Basin have a 30%
chance to reach 100 degrees tomorrow.

Monday through Saturday: Temperatures peak Monday in the low 90s to
mid 100s. Chances for 100+ degrees Sunday are greatest in central
Washington (Wenatchee: 80%, Moses Lake: 80%, Omak: 55%). The best
chances to see 100+ degree readings in eastern Washington and north
Idaho is downtown Spokane (15% chance) and Lewiston (80% chance).
Fire danger will be elevated in central Washington Monday afternoon
and evening as the ridge flattens out and dry westerly Cascade gap
winds increase to 10-15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. This theme
continues into Tuesday with slightly stronger winds in the afternoon
and evening in central Washington (10-20 mph with gusts up to 35
mph). Temperatures start to cool off Tuesday through the rest of the
week but at the cost of stronger winds. By Friday, temperatures are
much cooler around the mid 70s to low 80s. Wednesday and Thursday
will feature elevated to critical fire weather conditions in central
Washington with winds 10-25 mph gusting around 30-40 mph and
humidities in the upper teens to mid 20s. Low end shower chances (15-
30% chance) return Wednesday in the northern mountains and last
through the weekend as weak troughing builds off the west coast.
Rain amounts look light each day, but anything helps this time of
year. DB
