162 FXUS66 KOTX 082226 AFDOTX Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Spokane WA 326 PM PDT Wed Oct 8 2025 .KEY MESSAGES... - Cold overnight temperatures in sheltered valleys through Wednesday. - Dry through Thursday. - Unsettled weather over the weekend including the potential for light mountain pass snow. && .SYNOPSIS... Dry, cool conditions expected through Thursday. Temperatures will then increase slightly through the end of the week. The weekend brings chances of unsettled weather and precipitation including snow in the mountains. Cooler, wetter conditions expected for start of next week. && .DISCUSSION... Tonight through Sunday: A low is slowly creeping south along the coast. It is expected to stall off the southern Oregon coast for Thursday and Friday. It will send weak waves of moisture into the Pacific Northwest. Ensemble agreement is decent for the placement and track of the Low. Best chances for any precip are along the Cascades and Okanogan Foothills but amounts not expected to be more than a few hundredths of an inch for Thursday. The Low finally pushes on shore Friday and showers chances spread across the entire Inland Northwest. The Low will usher in colder air and lower snow levels. Elevations above 4000ft can expect some snow mixed with rain for the weekend. Snow amounts expected to be less than 2 inches. Ground might be too warm for any decent surface accumulation. Rain amounts for the lower terrains will range from up to a tenth for the Central Basin and Okanogan Valley, 0.2-0.5" for most valleys and Eastern Basin, and around 0.75" for higher terrain of Idaho Panhandle. Highs will drop into the 50s for the period. Overnight lows will range from the upper 20s to 30s. The region can expect an increasing area of frost and freeze. Might want to consider harvesting any remaining produce from backyard gardens. Monday through Wednesday: Ensembles are keeping the Low over the region for Monday. Showers chances continue through Monday. By Tuesday, the Low digs further south. It will start a drying trend for the region. Temperatures continue to be on the cooler side of the Low. Highs continue to be to in the 50s. Lows will stay in the upper 20s and 30s. /JDC && .AVIATION... 18Z TAFS: VFR conditions with light winds will prevail. All TAF sites but KEAT will remain at VFR. Conditions at KEAT have gone down to MVFR due to smoke and haze moving through the area. Models have smoke moving out of the area around 20Z.
