...National Weather Service Completes Review of Potential
Connecticut 24-Hour Rainfall Record from August 18th 2024 Event...

Following an analysis by the State Climate Extremes Committee,
comprising representatives from the local National Weather
Service Forecast Office New York, NY, Eastern Region, and the
National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI), two
rainfall measurements, 13.5" and 14.83", recorded by private
weather stations in Oxford, CT, on August 18th, 2024, were deemed
invalid due to issues with their siting.

One weather station was located too close to trees, which could
have affected its readings, while the specifics of the other
station`s setup were not able to be verified. Consequently, these
observations do not qualify for consideration.

As a result, Connecticut`s official 24-hour rainfall record
remains unchanged at 12.77 inches, set on August 19th, 1955.
