.DISCUSSION...
Low fire weather concerns today. Winds are out of the southwest
this morning, but a cold front moving through will shift winds to
northwesterly across all but far southeast Nebraska and southwest
Iowa by this afternoon. Humidity will fall to 40 to 50 percent
across areas that are snow-free, but across far northeast Nebraska
and western Iowa, humidity will be much higher due to snowpack and
anticipated snowmelt from warmer temperatures. Due to High
Pressure in place over the region, mixing heights remain low today
despite clear skies, generally staying 1500 ft or lower. This
combined with weakening transport winds as the front moves
through, expect smoke dispersal today to be poor.
Tuesday will be fairly similar with another weak, dry cold front
moving through. The day will start out with winds out of the
southwest, shifting to northwesterly by the afternoon across all
but far southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa. We do get a bit
drier across east-central portions of Nebraska as temperatures
warm into the mid-50s allowing humidity to drop into the 30-40
percent range. Still, fire weather concerns are only low to
moderate as wind speeds won`t be much of an issue, only around
15-20 mph at their strongest.
