Seas given as significant wave height, which is the average height of the highest 1/3 of the waves. Individual waves may be more than twice the significant wave height. AMZ101-171530- Synopsis for the SW N Atlantic including the Bahamas 1124 PM EDT Sat Aug 16 2025 .SYNOPSIS...Major Hurricane Erin is near 20.3N 65.1W at 11 PM EDT, and is moving west-northwest at 12 kt. Maximum sustained winds are 120 kt with gusts to 145 kt, and the minimum central pressure is 937 mb. Erin will move to 20.8N 66.7W Sun morning, 22.0N 68.5W Sun evening, 23.3N 69.9W Mon morning, 24.5N 70.8W Mon evening, 26.0N 71.5W Tue morning, and 28.0N 72.1W Tue evening. Erin will change little in intensity as it moves near 32.0N 71.5W late Wed. Swells generated by Erin will affect portions of the northern Leeward Islands, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, and the Turks and Caicos Islands through the weekend. These swells will spread to the Bahamas, Bermuda, and the east coast of the United States by early next week. These rough ocean conditions will likely cause life-threatening surf and rip currents. Otherwise, high pressure will begin to ridge southward off the southeast U.S. on Sun. The gradient between the ridge and Erin will promote moderate to fresh north to northeast winds offshore northern Florida to near 74W from Mon through Wed.
