.DISCUSSION...
Upper level ridging is expected to prevail over the Brooks Range
and general North Slope region through the majority of the
weekend. Mostly sunny/partly cloudy conditions are anticipated
through early Sunday. The pattern begins to change around the
Sunday to Monday time frame as low pressure builds over the state.
This change in pattern is expected to bring a cooling trend as
well as more moisture to the area throughout the week. Chances for
showers are possible on Sunday for most of the region with
potential for isolated afternoon thunderstorms near Kaktovik and
the Northern Alcan Border. Gusty winds have the potential to pick
up on Sunday up to around 20 to 25 mph from the west/southwest
over the Western/Central Arctic Plains, Howard Pass/Delong
Mountains, and the Romanzof Mountains. Going into the extended
forecast, isolated thunderstorms are also possible Monday
afternoon over the Central and Eastern Brooks Range. Minimum
humidity values will increase slightly from Saturday to Sunday,
from the upper 40% to lower 50% respectively, along with a slight
high temp decrease to the high 70s and low 80s. Between 0.5 to 1.5
inches of rain is expected for the general region for the week.
