Hydrometeorological Forecast Discussion
NWS North Central River Forecast Center Twin Cities/Chanhassen MN
1132 AM CDT Tue Sep 15 2026
Rainfall from the frontal boundary moving into in our area generally
underperformed compared to the prior forecast, though parts of Iowa
did see over three inches of rain. There is higher uncertainty now
as that boundary lingers. Additional heavy accumlations are still
likely, but location and timing is in question, with current guidance
keeping the heaviest threat areas south of our recently wet areas
early, and then north of those areas later in the period.
The sum total may amount to beneficial rain for most areas involved,
but the possibility still exists for some significant river rises in
the NCRFC area, with those chances still centered on central to
eastern Iowa.
River forecasts routinely incorporate 24 hours of QPF from
April 1 to September 30 and 48 hours from October 1 to March 31.
