Continue to protect sensitive vegetation - Showery this evening in northwest Montana - High pressure will build into the weekend bringing a warming trend Some embedded moisture in northwest flow aloft will keep isolated showers and thunderstorms in the forecast for northwest Montana this afternoon and evening, especially over the Continental Divide north of about Highway 200. Overnight low temperatures for Wednesday morning will favor the development of frost. Temperatures are not quite as cold as this morning (Tuesday), so a good rule of thumb will be if you did not have frost this morning, you will not have frost on Wednesday morning. The most likely areas for frost will be the Bitterroot and Missoula valleys, the Flathead Valley, and the upper Clark Fork Valley from Anaconda through about Drummond. Northwest flow aloft will continue through mid week as a ridge of high pressure builds over the West Coast. The ridge axis will move over the Northern Rockies this weekend. As a result, temperatures will exhibit a warming trend through the weekend while chances for precipitation stay slim. Daytime high temperatures for Montana valleys will reach the lower 90s by Sunday. The lower Salmon and Clearwater valleys will see upper 90s to triple digits. && .AVIATION...A weak disturbance in northwesterly flow continue to increase cloud cover. Marginal instability will lead to showers and isolated thunderstorms, particularly across northwest Montana and along the Continental Divide, including KGPI. The higher terrain may be obscured at times. Breezy west to northwest winds are anticipated through the afternoon across the Northern Rockies, with gusts up to 20 kts for most airfields. Cool temperatures and frost are again expected in many valley locations by Wednesday morning. && .MSO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... MT...None. ID...None. && $$
