Fire Weather Planning Forecast for East Tennessee...Southwest
Virginia...and Extreme Southwest North Carolina
National Weather Service Morristown TN
1018 AM EDT Fri Apr 18 2025

.DISCUSSION...

...Low Relative Humidity and Gusty Winds This Afternoon...

The warming trend continues with dry weather through the weekend.
Southwest winds increase today into the weekend ahead of a low
pressure system across the Great Plains. Afternoon relative
humidity values today will be very low thanks to strong and deep
mixing profiles. Gusty winds peaking in the afternoon will spur an
elevated weather driven fire danger, primarily in East Tennessee
where drier conditions have been over the past week, before
stronger RH recovery overnight along with weaker winds at the
surface. Strong wind gusts in the Smoky Mountains likely to
persist a little longer and peak into the early overnight hours
tonight before weakening, forecast to remain just below wind
advisory criteria. Rain and thunderstorm chances increase across
the Southern Appalachians on Monday.
