FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UPPER MICHIGAN
National Weather Service Marquette MI
545 PM EDT Fri Oct 4 2024

...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED SATURDAY AFTERNOON,
OCTOBER 5TH...

.DISCUSSION: Dry conditions continue late this afternoon through
Saturday afternoon as high pressure ridging reaches its peak
overtop us this evening, before a low-level jet ahead of a strengthening
cold front brings strong southerly winds up to 40 mph over us
Saturday afternoon. While we should expect a full RH recovery
tonight over the south central and east, the west and Keweenaw
will struggle to get max RHs back up to 70 percent before
Saturday afternoon. As a low-level jet moves across Upper
Michigan Saturday, expect southerly winds to gust up to 35 mph
across most of the area, with the downslopes near Lake Superior
potentially gusting up to 40 mph. In addition, with ongoing
drought conditions and RHs expected to drop down into the lower
to mid 30 percents across a large portion of the U.P., a Red Flag
Warning was issued for all of Upper Michigan for Saturday
afternoon. While moisture improves at the surface ahead of the
cold front by mid Saturday afternoon over the west to Saturday
evening over the east, weather conditions will be ideal for fire
spread ahead of the incoming moisture.
