.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1115 AM CDT Sat Jul 12 2025

Summer continues with upper ridging overhead this weekend into
early next week. Weak inverted upper troughing slowly transits
west by mid to late week across the northeastern gulf with a weak
surface trough/low moving in tandem with it. Through early next
week, typical afternoon isolated to scattered showers and storms
can be expected with hot afternoon temperatures in the lower to
middle 90`s, becoming middle to perhaps even upper 90`s Monday
into Tuesday. With the approach of the aforementioned trough,
temperatures taper back into the upper 80`s to lower 90`s to
round out the week while rain chances increase quite a bit. If the
more aggressive forecast guidance regarding cloud cover and
thunderstorm coverage is correct, temperatures might be even
cooler than currently forecast. Afternoon heat indices will
generally be in the 100 to 108 range through early next week,
perhaps locally approaching the 110 nearer the coast Tuesday. The
rip current risk remains low through early next week, but should
start to increase mid to late week with onshore flow prevailing.
