...July 2025 Weather Summary Across East Central Florida...

July 2025 ended up warmer than normal, especially with a pronounced
heat wave at the end of the month. Average temperatures ended up
around 0.5 to 1.5 degrees above normal, and for most sites this
ranked within the top 15 warmest for July. July 2025 saw alternating
periods of wetter and drier than normal conditions. Rainfall totals
were variable as is typical with the scattered coverage of
summertime storms and the locally heavy rainfall they produce.
However, much of the area ended up with near to above normal
precipitation, with some drier spots still occurring, including
along the immediate east central Florida coast.

...Temperatures...

A wetter pattern during the first several days of July, led to daily
average temperatures ending up near to slightly below normal, with
highs in the upper 80s and low 90s. Temperatures then trended near
to slightly above normal through the middle portion of the month.
However, there was an exception on the 15th, when increased cloud
cover and persistent rainbands and storms associated with an onshore
moving low pressure system kept highs several degrees below normal,
in the low to mid 80s, across areas near to north of Orlando.

Toward the end of the month, a dominant ridge aloft built in across
the region, leading to scorching temperatures and very humid
conditions, setting up a prolonged heat wave across Florida. Several
high and warm minimum temperature records were set or tied during
the last several days of July. Notably, Leesburg reached 100 degrees
on both July 27th and 28th, setting a new monthly record for July
and tying their all-time highest temperature on record (See record
section below for more details). Also, Sanford set a new record warm
low for the month, with a minimum temperature of 81 degrees on the
28th. Surprisingly, not all records set at the end of the month were
from warm temperatures. Vero Beach tied their daily record low of 69
degrees on the 26th, as drier air and light winds allowed the low
temperature to fall several degrees below normal.

Persistent above normal temperatures through much of the month,
capped by a very hot end to July, resulted in monthly average
temperatures running around 0.5 to 1.5 degrees above normal. It was
notably the 5th warmest July on record (tying July 2010) at Sanford,
6th warmest at Leesburg, and 9th warmest July on record at Daytona
Beach. At Orlando, Melbourne and Vero Beach, average temperatures
for July fell just outside of their top ten rankings, with it being
the 14th warmest, 11th warmest and 15th warmest July at each site
respectively.

...Rainfall...

At the beginning of the month, the subtropical ridge axis remained
south of the area for the first several days as a weak front moved
in and stalled across the northern Florida peninsula. This led to an
increase in moisture, with scattered to numerous showers and
thunderstorms developing each day across the area. This wetter
pattern led to widespread 1 to 3 inches of rainfall for much of east
central Florida for the first 7 days of July, with localized amounts
up to 4 to 6 inches. Fort Pierce set a daily rainfall record during
this time, receiving 2.06 inches on July 3rd. Coverage of daily
showers and storms then trended below normal for a few days before
an area of low pressure approached and eventually moved onshore near
the St. Augustine area on the 15th. Persistent rainbands and storms
on the south side of this low, produced widespread precipitation
totals of 1 to 3 inches near to north of Orlando, with localized
higher totals of 5 to 7 inches in central Volusia County and also in
the Mims area, leading to reports of flooding. Daytona Beach set a
rainfall record on this day, with 2.25 inches falling at the
airport.

Drier air moved in following the passage of this low pressure, and
led to a decrease in showers and storms for a few days from the 18th
through the 20th. Rainfall increased once again from the 21st
through the 24th as deeper moisture moved into the region ahead of a
frontal boundary that pushed into the southeast United States. On
the 22nd, Melbourne set a new daily rainfall record, with 2.82
inches falling at the airport. However, just to the south, localized
higher totals up to 4 inches occurred that day near the Florida
Institute of Technology in Melbourne, producing flash flooding of
roadways in the area. Through the remainder of the month, a ridge
aloft dominated the weather pattern leading to very hot and drier
than normal conditions for much of the area. However, on the 29th,
slow moving storms produced up to 4 to 5 inches across the Leesburg
area, west of the airport, leading to roadway flooding and several
road closures.

Rainfall totals for the month varied across the region, which is not
unusual due to the scattered nature of daily showers and storms
during the wet season. Still, across much of the area overall totals
ended up near to above normal, averaging around 6 to 9 inches, with
some localized higher amounts of 10 to 15 inches. Still, there were
some spots (including portions of the immediate east central Florida
coast) that ended up lower than this, with precipitation totals
around 3 to 5 inches, which were around 1 to 2 inches below normal
for July.
