A waterspout formed along the leading edge of a thunderstorms
outflow boundary over the Indian River Lagoon near Sebastian.
Public videos show the waterspout crossing the lagoon and moving
ashore approximately 1 mile south of Sebastian Inlet State Park.

At approximately 5:14 PM EDT, the tornado briefly crossed the
narrow barrier island and A1A, producing minor damage to sea grape
and pepper trees. No damage to power lines or signs was observed.
Based on the documented impacts, peak winds were estimated at 65
mph, consistent with an EF-0 tornado. The circulation then moved
offshore and reemerged over the Atlantic as a waterspout.

There are no known direct injuries or fatalities as a result of
the tornado. The National Weather Service in Melbourne would like
to thank Indian River County Emergency Management and residents
for providing photo and video evidence of the event.
