779 NOUS42 KMLB 060251 PNSMLB Public Information Statement National Weather Service Melbourne FL 1051 PM EDT Fri Sep 5 2025 ...August 2025 Weather Summary Across East Central Florida... Frontal boundaries pushed into the southeast U.S., typically stalling and lingering near to north of the area during much of August. The combination of these frontal boundaries and increased moisture helped continue daily development of showers and storms across the region, and at times led to higher coverage of this activity during the month. Rainfall varied, but totals for August were overall near to above normal for much of east central Florida, except across northern Lake County and along the southern Treasure Coast where conditions ended up drier than normal. While some of the increases in rainfall did keep temperatures closer to normal, overall warmer than normal conditions prevailed across east central Florida. Monthly average temperatures ended up around a half a degree to a degree above normal, placing August 2025 within the top 15 warmest August rankings for most of the primary climate sites. ...Temperatures... Temperatures started off above normal for August, with some daily record warm temperatures occurring during the first several days of the month. Most of these records were from warm overnight lows in the upper 70s, but Vero Beach did tie their record high of 95 degrees on the 3rd and Leesburg tied their record high of 95 degrees on the 6th. Temperatures then trended a little closer to normal through the 11th as a stalled front north of the area led to an increase of daily showers and storms. A warm-up followed, with several warm minimum temperature records set or tied once again into mid-month, as lows often didn`t fall below the upper 70s for most sites. Toward the last third of the month, another front stalled and lingered either north or across central Florida, leading to another increase in showers and storms. This kept temperatures near to just slightly above normal, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s and lows in the low to mid 70s. Overall, warmer than normal conditions prevailed and led to monthly average temperatures across the area that ranged from 0.4 degrees above normal at Leesburg to 1.3 degrees above normal at Melbourne. Vero Beach was the only site where August 2025 ranked within the top ten warmest, tying August 2024 and 2007 as 9th warmest on record. Isolated to scattered showers and storms the first few days of August became scattered to numerous each day from the 4th through the 11th as a stalled front lingered north of the area. Most locations picked up at least 1-3 inches of precipitation during this timeframe, but some spots had rainfall totals as high as 4-7 inches, especially between the I-4 and I-95 corridors. During this period, Leesburg set a daily rainfall record of 1.39 inches on the 9th, just barely exceeding their record for that date by just 0.04 inches. Through mid-month, rainfall across east central Florida decreased, with greatest totals up to 1-3 inches near to northwest of I-4. Major Hurricane Erin then remained well east of Florida as it lifted northward and made its closest approach on the 19th-20th. As Erin exited farther to the north-northeast another front shifted southward and either lingered across or just north of central Florida from the 23rd through the remainder of the month. This led to another increase in rainfall across the area, especially from the 21st through the 26th as prevailing offshore flow steered scattered to numerous showers and storms eastward and offshore each day. Rainfall totals during the last third of the month ranged from 2-5 inches for many locations, with locally higher totals of 6-8 inches. However along portions of the southern Treasure Coast, totals were around an inch or less. The increases in shower and storm coverage from that persistent frontal boundaries during the month overall led to near to above normal rainfall for most locations across east central Florida. Monthly precipitation amounts of 6-10 inches were common across the area, with locally higher amounts of 11-15 inches. Melbourne actually had their 4th wettest August on record, after a record daily rainfall of 2.41 inches on the last day of August at this site boosted their overall total to 11.40 inches for the month.
