.DISCUSSION...
Hurricane Erin is forecast to lift northward well offshore the
Florida east coast today and Wednesday before turning northeast and
moving away from the Florida peninsula on Thursday. High pressure
and some drier air around the periphery of Erin will keep a low to
medium (30-50 percent)chance for rain and lightning storms through
Wednesday, with a medium (60percent) chance on Thursday. While
minimum RH values are forecast to remain above critical thresholds,
northeast winds will increase today with speeds 10-20 mph and gusts
up to 25-30 mph along the coast. A north to northwest wind flow is
forecast Wednesday with breezy/gusty conditions mainly along the
coast. The pressure gradient slackens some on Thursday as winds
shift westerly with speeds generally below 10 mph.
Afternoon dispersion values are forecast to be Very Good through
Thursday given the increased surface and/or transport winds. Warm
conditions continue locally, with highs generally in the low to mid
90s and peak heat indices reaching 102 to 106 over the next couple
of days.
Fog potential and other remarks...Widespread fog is not forecast.
However, localized visibility reductions due to smoke from new or
existing fires will be possible even if fog is not forecast.
