Fire Weather Planning Forecast for East Central Florida
National Weather Service Melbourne FL
300 AM EDT Sun May 31 2026

.DISCUSSION...

Broad high pressure south of the Florida peninsula will lead to
persistent west to northwest winds across east central Florida
through the beginning of this week. Development of the east coast
sea breeze is forecast, causing winds along the coast to become more
onshore, but progression inland will be limited. Wind speeds are
forecast to remain around 10 mph. These winds both at the surface
and aloft will lead to generally good to very good afternoon smoke
dispersion values both today and again on Monday. Minimum RH values
will remain well above critical thresholds as a moist air mass
remains in place across the Florida peninsula.

The moist air mass coupled with a sea breeze collision in the
afternoon hours, typically after 2 PM, will lead to increasing rain
and storm chances across east central Florida. Lightning strikes,
wind gusts to 45 mph, and minor, localized flooding will all be
possible with the strongest storms that develop. Activity will push
offshore into the late evening and overnight hours.

Fog potential...Widespread fog is not forecast. Localized visibility
reductions due to smoke from new or existing fires will be possible
even if fog is not forecast.
