Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan WI
355 AM CDT Sun Aug 3 2025

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Wildfire smoke will create haze and air quality at unhealthy
  levels at times again today.

- Humidity gradually returns next week, along with shower and
  thunderstorm chances.

.SHORT TERM...
Issued 355 AM CDT Sun Aug 3 2025

Today and Tonight:

It will be quiet again today under high pressure, with plenty of
sunshine and light winds expected along with near normal high
temperatures. The main weather concern will be lingering
wildfire smoke under the high. The latest HRRR suggests both
elevated and near surface smoke may hang in into at least
Monday. The Air Quality Advisory issued by the Wisconsin DNR
remains in effect until noon today, with a further extension of
the advisory possible given the latest smoke forecast.

.LONG TERM...
Issued 355 AM CDT Sun Aug 3 2025

Monday through Saturday:

High pressure will continue to push east over eastern Ontario
and gradually into Quebec. The high will slow fairly
significantly and strengthen which will keep higher pressure
across WI. This will likely keep conditions dry through at least
Tuesday. Into Wednesday while higher pressure may linger an
upper level shortwave may slide through with a return of more
direct southerly flow. This will allow for increased moisture
and PWATs. The shortwave aloft whether we get showers and storms
or not as it pushes through looks likely to usher in upper
level ridging across the area. This may also usher in a more
active weather pattern with shortwaves riding the ridge into the
region. Exactly how this all unfolds is uncertain but the
second half of next week looks much warmer and more humid with
better chances for storms.

.AVIATION...
Issued 355 AM CDT Sun Aug 3 2025

Expect similar conditions today and tonight as the last couple
days under high pressure. Mostly clear to partly cloudy skies
will persist along with light winds. Patchy fog will be possible
through early this morning and then again tonight, mainly in
the Wisconsin River Valley and other low lying areas. Smoke
aloft and near the surface is expected to linger through early
this week under the high, which may reduce visibilites to 5 to
7 SM at times.

.MARINE...
Issued 355 AM CDT Sun Aug 3 2025

High pressure around 30.2 inches will sit over the Great Lakes
through early this week, bringing light and variable winds to
Lake Michigan. Winds will gradually become east to southeast by
mid- week as the high slowly shifts eastward, with southerly
winds likely towards the end of the week ahead of an approaching
trough.
