Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Miami FL
151 AM EST Wed Feb 5 2025

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, MARINE, BEACHES...

.SHORT TERM...
(Today through Thursday)
Issued at 150 AM EST Wed Feb 5 2025

Mid to upper level ridging will remain in place across South
Florida today and Thursday as a large area of high pressure at the
surface remains parked over the western Atlantic. With these two
features creating plenty of subsidence over the region, this will
continue to promote mainly dry conditions throughout the area
during this time frame. With a rather light east to southeasterly
wind flow in place, temperatures will continue to remain above
climatological normals as highs will rise into the lower 80s
across the east coast metro areas, and into the mid to upper 80s
across Southwest Florida. Low temperatures tonight will generally
range from the lower to mid 60s across Southwest Florida to the
upper 60s across the east coast metro areas.

The only concern in the sensible weather across South Florida
will still remain the development of fog especially across the
interior and western sections early this morning, and then another
round late tonight into early Thursday morning. With light winds
during this time frame and plenty of lower level moisture
remaining near the surface, some of the fog will continue to have
the potential to become dense especially over portions of
Southwest Florida early this morning, and then again late tonight
into early Thursday morning. Visibility could be reduced to a
quarter of a mile or less in spots during the predawn hours this
morning and then again on Thursday.

.LONG TERM...
(Thursday night through Tuesday)
Issued at 150 AM EST Wed Feb 5 2025

The rather benign weather pattern will continue across South
Florida through the rest of the week and into the upcoming weekend
as mid level ridging holds strong over the region. At the
surface, the area will remain on the periphery of strong high
pressure in the western Atlantic during this time frame resulting
in the light east southeasterly wind flow to continue. This will
also continue to result in mostly dry conditions through the rest
of the week and into the weekend with temperatures remaining above
climatological normals. Highs will generally rise into the lower
80s across the east coast metro areas and into the mid to upper
80s over Southwest Florida.

Moving into the early portion of next week, the latest global and
ensemble guidance shows mid level ridging trying to hold its grip
across South Florida as surface high pressure continues to nose
into the region from the western Atlantic. This will continue to
act as a blockade over the area and will help to keep any type of
frontal boundaries or shortwave energy well off to the north
resulting in mainly dry conditions during this time frame. Without
any access to the cooler air up to the north, high temperatures
will remain above climatological normals through the early portion
of the week.

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1231 AM EST Wed Feb 5 2025

VFR conditions are likely through the period for all east coast
TAF sites. With light and variable winds, this may allow for
patchy fog to develop over the interior areas and Gulf coast early
this morning. The chance for visibility and ceiling reductions
look lower than previous nights with the best chance for MVFR/IFR
conditions to impact KAPF.

.MARINE...
Issued at 150 AM EST Wed Feb 5 2025

A gentle east to southeasterly breeze will continue across the
local waters through the rest of the week. This breeze may become
moderate over the upcoming weekend across the Atlantic waters.
Areas of sea fog will continue to remain possible this morning
across the Gulf waters before gradually dissipating heading into
the afternoon. Another round of sea fog will also be possible late
tonight into Thursday morning over the Gulf waters. Seas across
the Atlantic and Gulf waters will generally remain at 2 feet or
less through the rest of the week and into the upcoming weekend.

&&

.BEACHES...
Issued at 150 AM EST Wed Feb 5 2025

A moderate risk of rip currents will continue mainly across the
Palm Beaches through the rest of the week and into the upcoming
weekend. The rip current risk will generally remain low for the
rest of the South Florida beaches during this time frame.
