438 FXUS62 KMFL 031905 AFDMFL Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Miami FL 305 PM EDT Thu Apr 3 2025 ...DRY CONDITIONS THROUGH WEEKEND ALONG WITH HIGH RISK OF RIP CURRENTS EAST COAST BEACHES... ...ROUGH MARINE CONDITIONS THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING ATLANTIC WATERS... ...New LONG TERM... .SHORT TERM... (Rest of today through Friday) Issued at 1222 PM EDT Thu Apr 3 2025 A strengthening mid level ridge combined with a rather large area of high pressure at the surface will continue to dominate the weather pattern across South Florida through the rest of today and into Friday. With plenty of subsidence in place from these two features, plenty of dry air will continue to filter into the mid and upper levels during this time frame. While most of the region will remain dry this afternoon and Friday, there will be just enough lower level moisture advecting across the area to support the possibility of a brief shower or two mainly over the Atlantic waters as well as the eastern half of the region. Any shower that does develop will be low topped and short lived due to the abundance of dry air aloft. With the surface area of high pressure remaining rather strong, this will also allow for the pressure gradient across South Florida to remain tight through the end of the week. The result will be breezy southeasterly winds today as well Friday. Winds could also be gusty especially along the immediate east coast where gusts could be as high as 30 mph this afternoon. High temperatures will remain on the warm side this afternoon and Friday as they will rise into the lower to mid 80s along the east coast, and up to around 90 across interior portions of Southwest Florida. && .LONG TERM... (Friday night through next Wednesday) Issued at 241 PM EDT Thu Apr 3 2025 This Weekend... The ridge of high pressure over the Western Atlantic waters will continue to remain nearly stationary through this weekend keeping any fronts to the north from coming down into Florida. This in turn will keep the dry weather in place over South Florida this weekend. The winds will also continue to be southeast at 10 to 15 mph except breezy along the east coast metro areas. Highs each day this weekend will be in the 80s over the east coast metro areas to around 90 over rest of South Florida. This will allow for the heat indices to get up to around 90 over the east coast metro areas to the lower to mid 90s over rest of South Florida. Lows will be in the 60s over the interior areas to the lower to mid 70s over the metro areas. Early to Middle of Next Week... The ridge of high pressure over the Atlantic waters will break down early next week allow for a cold front over the central United States to move southeast and through South Florida by middle of next week. This will allow for the wind flow to be more south/southwest early next week over South Florida allowing for moisture to return to the region. Therefore, scattered to numerous showers and even a few thunderstorms will be possible over the region especially on Tuesday ahead of the cold front. The wind flow will then become more north/northeast middle of next week with the passage of the cold front. This in turn will allow for some drier air to work into the region, but there could still be some showers over the east coast metro areas due onshore flow. Therefore, a slight chance of showers will remain in the forecast for the east coast metro areas for the middle of next week. Highs early next week (ahead of the cold front) will be in the lower to mid 90s except around 90 west coast metro areas. Heat indices during this time will be in the mid to upper 90s except lower 90s west coast metro areas. Highs will then be cooler behind the front with upper 70s to lower 80s for middle of next week as lows will be in the 50s except 60s over the metro areas. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1222 PM EDT Thu Apr 3 2025 Predominantly VFR conditions will prevail throughout the forecast period. Strong southeasterly wind flow will continue this afternoon into this evening with wind speeds of 20 to 25 kts common across the east coast terminals. Wind gusts could range between 25 and 30 kts this afternoon and into the evening hours. && .MARINE... Issued at 1222 PM EDT Thu Apr 3 2025 A moderate to fresh southeasterly breeze will continue across the local waters through the rest of the week and into the first part of the weekend. These winds could still be occasionally strong over the Atlantic waters tonight into the early portions of Friday resulting in hazardous marine conditions during this time frame. Winds will slowly begin to subside during the second half of the weekend. Seas across the Atlantic waters will range from 3 to 6 feet through the end of the week while seas across the Gulf waters range from 2 to 4 feet. && .BEACHES... Issued at 1222 PM EDT Thu Apr 3 2025 With a breezy southeasterly wind flow in place, a high risk of rip currents will continue across the Atlantic Coast beaches through the rest of the week and into the upcoming weekend. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
