Rain accumulation is currently expected to be less than one half inch. && .UPDATE... Issued at 1111 AM CST Fri Feb 21 2025 Updated to remove the Cold Weather Advisory. A warming trend will continue into the middle of next week with little to no rain. && .DISCUSSION... (Today through Thursday) Issued at 253 AM CST Fri Feb 21 2025 A 1043 mb surface arctic high pressure was centered near Kansas City this morning. Temps across the Mid-South ranged from the upper single digits to the mid teems with wind chills approaching zero. A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through noon. Between the ponding water sitting around the Mid-South from recent flooding and this recent cold snap there is lots of thin ice around the Mid-South right now. It has not been cold enough for long enough to create safe ice so remind the kiddos to stay off. The arctic high pressure will gradually shift to the SE US and weaken over the weekend. Expect another cold one today with highs generally in the 20s and 30s followed by another very cold night in the teens and lower 20s. Winds turn southwesterly this weekend and a warming trend gets started for real with highs in the 30s and 40s on Saturday and 40s and 50s on Sunday. Zonal flow aloft will predominate this weekend into next week with some weak, moisture starved, upper level disturbances moving through. Temps will continue to warm next week with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. A front will move through Wednesday afternoon and night. This system looks to produce some showers and light rainfall amounts, perhaps up to one half inch. A cooler airmass, though not of arctic origin, will push in for the end of the week cooling highs into the 50s. All in all a fairly benign week coming up. && .AVIATION... (18Z TAFS) Issued at 1103 AM CST Fri Feb 21 2025 VFR conditions will prevail through the period as high pressure continues to dominate the region. Light winds will shift from northeast to more west/northwest with the movement of weak southerly flow. AEH && .MEG WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... AR...None. MO...None. MS...None.
